Lowering your car the cheap way

Category: Weird and Wacky

It seems that the usual way to lower a car in New Zealand is to bust out the old Makita and shave a few coils off the springs. Well, that’s according to the New Zealand online newspaper Stuff.co.nz.

After pulling over an unregistered Mitsubishi Lancer, it was soon revealed that the car was filled with heavy rocks, dropping the car into the weeds and created a cheap lowered look. Upon closer inspection it was revealed that the driver was only 15 years old and the car didn’t belong to either the driver or the 27 year old passenger.

Reported in the online New Zealand newspaper, Rachel Lord stated that it appeared the Lancer had been lowered by loading the boot full of rocks, rather that the usual method of cutting the springs.

That’s right, the “usual” method of cutting the springs. Something tells me that somebody seriously needs to do a bit of research into the effects of cut springs before making such a irresponsible claim in public. D’oh!

ACCC steps in against uncertified trolley jacks

Category: On the Street
Posted: 26.09.2007 10:16

The age old saying ‘you get what you paid for’ rings true for just about everything you could possibly spend your money on and it certainly relates to garage tools and equipment. While the popular brands like Snap-on and Sidchrome may seem like overpriced rip offs, ask any older mechanic that has had his set for 30 years exactly what he thinks of the build quality.

Recently the ACCC had advised a Federal ruling against Trade Quip Pty Ltd and one of its directors, Mr. Bruce Yarwood, for breaching the Trade Practices Act 1974 for supplying non-compliant hydraulic trolley jacks with deceptive load ratings attached to the tag.

The trolley jacks in question were labelled with a load rating of 2,250kgs, however when tested for compliance with Australian and New Zealand Standards, failed to lift the nominated weight in a safe manner.

Anyone owning a Trade Quip 2,250kg trolley jack described as a Quick Lift Garage Trolley Jack who wish to return the product had do so by contacting Trade Quip on 03 9357 844
