YouTube video of the week

We all know how dangerous the world of motorsport is with cars reaching 300km/h within inches of each other, but what about pit lane where drivers are forced to obey strict speed limits? This clip proves that those who pay attention, remove themselves from the path of a speeding Indy car.

As Danica Patrick enters were pit lane space, rival team member Charles Buckman failed to keep within their own garage space and as a result became a real life crash test dummy.

Hard to believe that Buckman only suffered a concussion as a result of the impact which looks like quite a ferocious impact.

A lesson on oil viscosity and Subaru engines

Category: YouTube

While this looks to be a very pointless exercise, it certainly is a entertaining lesson on just how important the oil’s role is in an internal combustion engine, or in this case, an external combustion engine.

Using the rev-limiter as some form of base for the test, the oil was drained from the engine and the clock then began to tick. The little four banger put up a fight but it was friction that got the better of it in the end.

Airborne at 220km/h!

We know it’s a Subaru, but this is one video that is a must see for all those petrol heads out there that occasionally set their browser to YouTube.

Subaru WRC driver Barry Johnson was taken to hospital following this rough landing in what was later revealed to have crushed three of his vertebrae in his lower back.

The Subaru has reached an estimated 3.6 meters in the air while travelling some 60 meters on the ground, possibly setting a new world record.

When asked about the jump, driver Johnson said “Then all the shockers burst when we landed so the oil came out of the car and it went on fire" said Johnson. "But this hasn't put me off my rallying. I'm going for some massage soon and hoping to feel a lot better in a few weeks.

"We've also sent someone to measure how far we actually did jump in case we've set a record. We're sure we're not that far off it. It was certainly a long jump.

“I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I wasn't having a good run, so we were on a bit of a push. We hit the rev limiter just before the jump, probably at around 137mph.”

Do yourself a favour and click the video link, it only lasts about 6 seconds but it is well worth it.
