A capacity entry of more than 150 of Australia’s most spectacular customised vehicles has been received for the 44th Victorian Hot Rod Show, which will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Building over the Australia Day long weekend from January 23-26.

“Despite all the talk of hard economic times, we’ve had to turn cars away,” said Show organiser Peter Unsworth.

“However this is a Heritage-listed building and we’re not prepared to cram them in. Instead, we’ve been very selective and we are confident that visitors will see the very best collection of customised vehicles gathered in Australia.”

Special cars, bikes, boats and even a customised V8 hot-rod tractor – many of which have never previously been shown – will be on display, all hoping to be chosen ‘Australia’s Coolest Rod’, with the prize being a return air ticket to the USA.

Patrons will also find a record 32 trade display stands, activities for children including a colouring competition and a party atmosphere, Unsworth promises.

Promoted by the Victorian Hot Rod Association and co-sponsored by Shannons, the Show is expected to attract a crowd of over 25,000 people is expected over its four days.

Friday January 23: Noon-10pm

Saturday January 24: 10am-10pm

Sunday January 25: 10am -10pm
